The Telepherique and Sultan Tourist Center in Jericho is comprised of a state of the art cable car linking Tel Jericho to the Mount of Temptation in less than five minutes. In one ride you travel over archaeology, history and religions. The length of the cable is 1330 meters the base station to the top station on the mountain. There are 12 cabins and each cabin taking 8 persons with a total capacity of 625 persons per hour.

Accessibility: Cabin number two takes the wheel chairs.
It is recommended to wear decent clothing to be able to enter the Monastery and donations are appreciated.

An ostracon bearing the name “Hisham” was found during excavations and is considered as evidence for the site’s construction during the reign of the caliph Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik, the 10th Umayyad caliph who ruled from 724 to 743.
This is the tourist version of Elisha’s Spring. Below the ancient tel (Tel es-Sultan) to the east there is a spring called Elisha’s Fountain where he threw salt in the waters and they were purified. (2 Kings 2:19).

Monastary of the Temptation

The Russian Museum Park Complex
The museum complex in Jericho is situated in so called “Joseph land plot” which has belonged to Russia since 1883. The museum contains archaeological excavations.

The Famous Sycamore Tree
Actually there are two sycamore tree sites in Jericho. One sycamore tree of Zacchaeus is at the site of the Franciscan Catholic Convent of the Good Shepherd in Jericho.
At the Greek Orthodox monastery one can see a trunk of the very old sycamore tree protected by a glass frame.
