Yesterday I was shopping downtown in the Shuk (market) of Ramla, struggling to fight my way through the crowds. With a shopping bag full of fruit and vegetables in one hand and my camera in the other, I was exhauste by enjoyed every second. After walking the length of all the roof covered streets soaking in the experiences, colors, sounds and fragrances, I desperately needed to sit down and have a meal. Miraculously just in front of me was the Barakah Restaurant. This is an oriental style proletarian diner – a quick-lunch for the working man and shopper. The menu is home style and delicious. Service very friendly. I highly recommend the couscous.

The young man in the photos is called Shai, and he certainly is not shy! It was worthwhile coming to eat here just to see his smile. The chef is Shai’s mother.
