Bloomfield Science Museum is a science museum in Jerusalem established in 1992. The museum is located opposite the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the Givat Ram neighborhood. The Bloomfield Science Museum is an informal cultural and educational institution that presents exhibitions consisting of interactive exhibits on subjects of science and technology, and integrates these exhibits into a context through a wide range of educational activities. The museum features indoor and outdoor hands-on exhibits, among them a bubble-making corner in which huge bubbles are produced by chains and sticks.
The BSMJ operates in two primary modes: First as a HUB serving as meeting places for all the diverse communities of Israel, and in particular those from the city of Jerusalem. Students and teachers from all sectors participate in a wide range of activities including enrichment programs. Families from all backgrounds visit the exhibitions; interact with S&T and with each other under the guidance of a multicultural team of STEM university students. Secondly and just as importantly, as a LAB that develops and tests new technologies, tools and pedagogy. In this mode, the museum engages people with S&T and transforms STEM education in the museum and in the classrooms. Operation is provided by an interdisciplinary team with the support of volunteer researchers and engineers.
The museum is named for its principal donor, Neri Bloomfield, a woman of valour, a life-time supporter and a true friend of the science museum who believed and promoted science education to all children and people of Jerusalem and the State of Israel. President of the Eldee Foundation from the time of the passing of her late husband Bernard in 1984, she initiated and supported the conception and realization of the Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem
The goals of the museum are to increase interest among the general public in science and technology in the world around us, to promote excellency in sciences among youth, and to present science and technology as an integral part of human culture.
The Bloomfield Science Museum is the place for learning with a twist, making it a great place for a family outing. A number of exhibitions are presented simultaneously with interactive displays that invite children and parents to touch, experience, and enjoy science.
Enjoy guided tours and construction workshops for all ages. During holidays and vacations, the museum hosts special events with new exhibits, a guest exhibition, workshops, demonstrations, activities and interactive live shows.
