During the traffic breakdown in Tel Aviv due to the early winter rains, we decided to take a break at the Kosher Cafe Cafe in the Givat Shmuel Mall. Givat Shmuel is a modern Orthodox community near Bar Ilan University, a popular alternative for young professionals and families. If you are from NYC you probably have friends living there. This branch of Cafe Cafe is Kosher Mehadrin and follows Shmitah laws strictly. It is one of several kosher restaurants in the mall. I want to return to try them all. The Givat Shmuel Cafe Cafe has indoor and outdoor seating for all seasons and tastes.

I chose this restaurant because of the SUSHI! – Each portion was served as if a designer specially prepared it for us. Sitting next to the sushi chef’s window I was able to watch as he did his wizardry. Salmon crispy or smoked. Wow I want to order more now.
It was beautiful to see all the young religious couples, some in dark Hasidic clothing and some in jeans, all coming in and asking the “greeter” for the sushi. It goes to prove that the Japanese must be from the Ten Tribes.
