Kababir

Israelandyou has already noted the unique pacifist brand of Islam held by the Ahmadiyya sect. Now you are invited to actually visit their Israeli center in Kababir, Haifa.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Communitywas founded as an off-shoot of Sunni Islam  in 1889 in India by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian (1835–1908). The founder declared that he was the “Promised One” of all religions. The motto of the Ahmadiyya Community is “Love for All, Hatred for None”. Ahmadi consider tolerance a the most important value and they believe in brotherhood between the peoples and oppose jihad. They are allowed to distribute their faith only through peaceful means. Ahmadi Muslims believe that Jesus migrated from Jerusalem after surviving death on the cross towards the East and later died and was buried in Kashmir.

The Oudeh familiy settled in Kababir from Ni’lin near Jerusalem in the 19th Century and were the first Palestinians to embrace Ahmadiyyat in Israel, then the British Mandate in Palestine. They converted to Ahmadiyya in 1924 during the visit of Khalif Mirza Bashir e-din Mahmood, the son of the founder of Ahmadiyya. Today there are 2,200 Ahmadi residents in Kababir. Approx. 70% of them are members of the Oudeh family.

Ahmadiyya Center

Kababir is the only Ahmadiyya community in Israel. Since the sect is threatened by both Sunni and Shi’ite Moslems their world center is in London. Members of the community refrain from making the Haj pilgrimage to Mecca, because of the animosity of the other Moslem sects.

Ahmadiyya Mosque
